Catering People – Behind our rebrand

2020 Catering People’s New Look

Catering People are excited to share our rebrand journey. To take you, our valued customers along for the unveiling.

2020 – The year that changed everything

Catering People were almost sent out of business due to the COVID-19 hospitality industry crisis. As well as being located on a university campus, we are an events caterer. Almost overnight we lost three months of catering work. As our other income stream – students and staff – were sent to work from home.

You might think Catering People would shut up shop. But the team knew they couldn’t give up. Ultimately, they bucked down and hunkered in. Furthermore, making sure the few staff and students who remained on campus and the Toowoomba community were looked after. Catering People continued to provide healthy and affordable food, Covid-safe catering and home delivered meals. And didn’t close for one day.

“40 years working in and around small business could never have prepared me for the shock of losing 98% of our business almost overnight. My only thought was that I would do whatever it took to keep my team employed and my business open. It was time to draw on every ounce of resilience and determination I had,”
Carmel Tulloch, Catering People owner.

A few months later, Catering People were dealt another blow. With the news that its lease on campus would not be renewed; this moment changed everything. In a year that was full of pivots and unprecedented stressors, once again Catering People was thrown into the unknown. After nearly 8 years of calling USQ home, the team was suddenly not only struggling to survive the pandemic but also looking for a new venue.

After all that we’d been through, there was no way we could give up on our hardworking team. And definitely not on our beloved customers and community. Catering People pivoted once again to search for a new home.

Toowoomba Motel & Events Centre – Catering People find a new home

After months of looking high and low, we were informed of an opportunity at the Toowoomba Motel and Events Centre. Upon meeting Gavin and inspecting the kitchen and function rooms, Catering People was sure that this versatile space would be our new home.

The venue is amazing with three separate function rooms, making it perfect for meetings, parties, wedding receptions, and more. As well as the attached motel, the Toowoomba Motel & Events Centre is an excellent choice for Conferences. The team was thrilled with this new location and we started to get the ball rolling as soon as we could.

A new home and a new-look brand!

With our new home confirmed, the hospitality team got to work for upcoming events. Like All Day Catering for important meetings for Lifeline, Anglicare and more. While that was happening, Catering People needed a change-up in branding. Our original name, CCP | Your Catering People, featured the word ‘Campus’. But as we were no longer on campus, this did not reflect our new adventure.

Toowoomba told us they needed us, they loved our excellent catering services, and gave us the strength to keep fighting. To stay true to our roots we decided to simplify our name to suit what we do best: being people who cater for you. And we are now known as Catering People. Thank you to all our valued guests, clients and supporters, for supporting us on this journey. We’re excited about the future!

Behind Catering People’s Logo

The idea behind the new Catering People logo was that we wanted to honour our history. Catering People is a family-run business. With Carmel’s two daughters behind ‘the screens’. Above all working on digital marketing, design, website and spearheading the rebrand. Extending on the logo that saw the business through the first 7 years. You can see this with the similar font.

“With the concept and brand progression strategy in place, we worked with French illustrator Emilie Montigny to achieve the final look. She brilliantly captures the essence of Queensland and gives a sense of place with the Cooktown Orchid. We think this is world class work and we are so thrilled to be able to launch it for our mother and the team.” Ilana Tulloch (Carmel’s Daughter) said.

Also, Catering People are Queensland-grown, owned and operated. In order to show this through the logo, the colours of aubergine and forest green. Likewise reminiscent of the colours of classic Queenslander homes that line the streets of Toowoomba.

Coupled with the Qld Floral Emblem, the Cooktown Orchid. Ultimately, the logo is brought together with the freshness of flowers and plants. And a table setting, ready for Catering People’s excellent and delicious food.

Catering People love our new look. And our new home at Toowoomba Motel and Events Centre.
